We all have moments in life where we let our team down. It's how we respond that counts.

Every year for the past few years I meet up with some friends, some that I grew up with and have known all of my life, and play in a veterans 6-a-side football tournament. It is a family day out and a bit of fun for our team.

Rarely have we ever threatened to win the tournament but we usually hold our own. This Saturday, in searing heat we entered feeling that we could do quite well.

We lost a close run first game, 3-2, to the eventual winners of the tournament. During this game I covered plenty of ground, made plenty of challenges and even scored a penalty. The past 3 competitive penalties that I had taken were missed. That was over 10 years ago. When I stepped forward and put the ball in the net I exorcised a few skeletons and felt good about it.

During the subsequent 3 games we lost 2 more and drew 2. we played well in all games and they were all close-run encounters. It was just not our day.

Having finished bottom of our group we played the team at the bottom of the other group in a last place play-off. Since it was a golden goal rule, the first to score would condemn the other team to the dubious mantle of worst team in the tournament.

Imagine my surprise when the man that I was marking managed to get goal side of me and put the ball into the net!

This one second of unawareness led to an evening of remarks towards me that were less than supportive! It’s fair to say that all other actions by me that day were instantly forgotten and I will be remembered for many years as the man who caused his team to finish last.

Whilst most of the comments were nothing more than friendly banter it did make me think about those in the World Cup who make mistakes that cost their team. Let’s take Arjen Robben who missed a clear cut chance to win Holland the World Cup. How will he be feeling today?

Whilst my situation is nowhere close to that of Arjen Robben I know how it feels to know that I made a mistake that cost my team. It is how I respond that counts.

I will respond by getting fitter and more focussed in both my football and my business. Some people bounce and others are haunted by the past. I choose to bounce.

Walk Innovation is ready to grow and I play football again tomorrow night, where I’m sure to hear all about my moment on Saturday.

Taking responsibility for ones actions and mistakes is the first step towards getting results. On Saturday I took my eye of my man and it cost my team. Today I am firmly focused on the task at hand - learning and growing in the process.

Community events are a great way to connect and have fun. When the local hospice ran a women's midnight walk, it was time for me to change!

At midnight today I donned a dress, make-up and a wig and joined about a thousand others for a 10 mile walk around St Albans for the local hospice, Grove House. The full moon and warm evening added to an already great event. Men were allowed to join as long as they got into the spirit. After all, it was a women’s walk.

Grove House provides a fantastic service to the community and has particular poignance to me as they looked after my grandad during his final weeks with cancer a few years ago.

What worked really well was the fun and spirit that was apparent from the very start to the end. One other chap even dared to walk in high heels, getting over half way before conceding his heels to pain and impracticality. His good humour was noted and I witnessed him give plenty of people reason to smile.

To see a community galvanised into action for such a good cause is testament to the spirit that can be generated when people unite with a common cause. I have never had so many compliments in one night as I did during the event!

Dressing up as a woman may be well outside of the comfort zone of many men. Only through doing it and gauging the responses of others who have a similar mindset will you ever know why it is a good idea every now and then. I spent the whole event smiling, laughing and raising my energy through the Walk Innovation techniques that I practice.

Right now I am still smiling at the events I witnessed, reactions that I met and people that I walked with. Events that bring together communities and make people smile are a gift to be taken whenever possible. I am very grateful to my friend Sabra who organised this and talked me into joining in the fun. Thanks Sabra.

Today I will be going out for another event that brings communities, indeed countries together - the World Cup! Come on England!

Energy is everything. How will you energise yourself?

What do you do to feel energised and truly alive?

Running your own business can lead to excessive time spent on the phone and computer. This is what I have found recently. Then I noticed that my energy was slowly draining. It was time for me to take positive action.

During the past week I have dropped out of the world of technology. I have kept my phone calls and internet activity to less than 1 hour a day.

This period coincides with me doing more walking, having more fun and spending quality time with quality people. I have simultaneously been outside with a video camera filming new footage for the Walk Innovation website.

Because of the longer daylight hours I have been out walking late in the evening in my local Verulamium park, in St Albans. The warm evenings, abundant wildlife and natural setting have left me feeling massively grateful and wonderfully energised.

Having spent many years traveling the world and experiencing many different places, cultures and climates I can honestly say that being in the UK for the longer daylight hours is one of the most special experiences of my life.

I may have dipped out of my technological reality for a while but I am now more energised and ready to interact with the world around me. Whilst I will still be shying away from e-mails and restricting my time on the phone, I am ready to share the delights of Walk Innovation and the extra energy that it brings with the community.

From now on I shall be less active on-line and more active physically.

Only through looking after our body will we truly experience states of mind that allow us to love life. This is the essence of Walk Innovation and my commitment to myself.

What will you commit to do yourself that will allow you to feel better and more energised?

Does every cloud have a silver lining? I think so.....

This week has provided me with a few challenges.

I lost months of work in one fell swoop when my computer crashed. Having not backed up my system this meant that I lost all of my music, videos, photos, products, e-books and documents. This constituted several thousand hours of work and memories saved onto my hard drive.

Apart from the loss of my work came the added expense of replacing my computer. This served as a hard hit initially. It is fair to say that it took a few days to fully process the learnings of this.

Then I had my epiphany….

All of my life I have had great ideas and been good at carrying them out to about 80% of completion before a much better idea comes along and shifts my attention in another direction. Although I had completed some projects, many were left incomplete.

Incomplete things drain energy and with so many incomplete projects I had not appreciated how this had been holding me back.

By losing all this work I freed up my energy.

Now I am able to assimilate the lessons of this episode and focus on one task at a time. It is a core learning and has enabled me to have more focus, flow and certainty in all that I do. Every challenge in life bears gifts that can be uncovered when we look for them.

What gifts are you ready to uncover?

Whatever challenge that you face at the moment there is a gift waiting for you. By asking the question “What gift does this situation bear that I haven’t yet discovered?” regularly, you will start to see every challenge as a gift.

This may not occur instantly but it will occur by holding the faith and asking the question continually.

I may have lost many things in the past few weeks, yet I have gained so much more.

Walk Innovation can give you energy with every single step that you take.

“If you want to design an education system that is diametrically opposed to what the brain is good at doing you would design a classroom.”

Professor John Medina. Director of the Brain Center for Applied Learning Research.

Walking is good for the body and good for the mind. This has been proven. It can help when facing life’s challenges.

Have you ever been challenged and come out smiling and energised?

For the past few weeks I have studied my energy levels and developed Walk Innovation further. Through simple techniques it is possible to energise the body through walking. Every single step can be used to generate and harness energy when one’s mind is in the right place.

I have simultaneously been burgled and had the contents of many months of work disappear on me in a moment when my computer ceased to operate. The reality of not backing up data was drilled home. Both events were challenging and happened just 5 days apart.

I have since realised how I attracted such incidents into my life.

I love Walk Innovation. It’s simple to learn, fun to do and it feels good. Anyone can do it. Learn it once and you can use it for the rest of your life.

Could you use more energy every time you walk?

I am going to share Walk Innovation with everyone as my gift to the planet. My motives are completely selfish. I want the world to be a happier place so that I can enjoy myself more.

Walk Innovation is an experience. It is an opportunity to BE in the moment. By building your energy through moving your body you will enter a state of relaxation and flow that allows amazing things to happen.

Walk Innovation can be done on your own or with a group. As a netwalking experience it’s in a league of it’s own. Quite simply it invoves walking and innovation.

I have always known that it works, I just have not been so good at explaining it. It would be like me describing a good film to you - I’m guessing that you may want to see it to experience it for yourself, regardless of how I described it - because your experience of it would be unique to you.

I had been so busy developing Walk Innovation that I had not remembered to share it. It took me to lose months of work to focus fully on the task at hand. I now feel liberated by the chance to focus on one thing at a time. My lesson has been to pay attention.

Somethimes it takes something shocking to remind me what is important in life. As a nurse I had many such shocking experience. Plenty of death was involved but also plenty of hope. The fact that I am alive and feeling in good shape is the most important thing in my life. By realising this I can love my life. You can do the same, more often.

I will love life better when others benefit from what I know. The fastest way to share this is to teach you and let you spread the happiness that it brings. I invite you to join me walking. details of events can be found on the dates and venues page.

I am grateful for all events in my life, especially the more challenging things that allow me to learn and grow. Life is unpredictable for most. Life can end in a moment. Use every moment wisely and amazing things will happen.

If you have any events that you are not yet grateful for in your life then this process will certainly help.

I hope that you can join me sometime soon.

When you do what you love to do all challenges can be overcome. I have realised that I have wonderful friends and family and I would like to thank you all.

If you feel that Walk Innovation could be good for someone you know then please help me to spread the word. For those who I have met and those I’m about to meet, I thank you all for investing your time in reading this invitation.

Wishing you much love and a most wonderful moment. And many more,

What do you do when you return home, your back door has been kicked in half and your draw has been ransacked, leaving the contents strewn over your bed. I didn't know until last night.....

I had never been burgled before.

When I returned home earlier I walked in to find the back door of the house had been kicked through and was broken in half. It came as a surprise. What does one do in such situations? Glass and wood debris lay in the house and out. The mangled lower half of the door was hanging by the hinge.

I have had many more pleasant experiences in my time.

A few hours later I had a door in place and a great deal of gratitude for what has just happened. Although the assailants had broken the back door they had largely left the house alone. The contents of one of the draws had been emptied onto the bed and a small amount of money had been taken. Amongst the contents on the bed were a few envelopes of gratitude notes that I keep. I hadn’t read them in a while. The burglar(s) had chosen to target the one draw where I keep my gratitude notes. Was this just chance? I think not.

In reading these notes of gratitude I lit up.

The amount of inconvenience caused was soon overturned by the words that I read. With each note I felt a warmth and realised that I have been touched by many friends and family. To all of you who have taught me so much, I thank you all dearly. The love and spirit that I have felt in your words and deeds have resonated deeply within.

In the past few hours I have become grateful for my health, my friends and family. In light of what I have in my life I am lucky. I have met some of my neighbours for the first time and reconnected with many of you in the past few hours as I read the notes and remembered the things that have been said to me.

I could have focused on what wasn’t good as I walked in earlier.

I have just finished an eight day run of seminars. During this run I had a few opportunities to energise myself through energising others. I have even had the opportunity to work with Brian Tracy, his wife, Barbara and business partner, Ib in a wonderfully serendipitous turn of events. They are all special people. When you connect with the intent to serve incredible things happen. Working with energy happens to all of us every day.

Everything is energy.

This mantra was said repeatedly at the seminar that I have just finished attending. It is something that I have known for a while. Every movement, action, thought, feeling and emotion has energy. This energy is magnetic. Everything in my reality has been attracted to me by my thoughts. During my many years as a nurse I learned to help people and get paid. Admittedly, it was no great wage but it allowed me a lifestyle that saw me spend over 6 years travelling the world outside of England.

Do you believe that everything that you believe is true?

Whatever I believe is true but only for me. I have no interest in changing the beliefs of others who do not want to have their beliefs changed. Because my beliefs are energetic they will attract that reality into my life.

I believed that it was my duty to serve, unconditionally

This is good. It has allowed me to connect with many great people. However, I had not been allowing myself to receive. This was not a conscious decision, it was buried deep within the realms of my unconscious mind. This condition had manifested in my life as a less than abundant flow of money. Having any money stolen at the moment is a significant message from the universe.

There was a big message for me

As burglaries go this was good. Aside from the door they only took a few pounds from my upstairs draw. They even left me most of the money. My wardrobe had been opened and everything appeared to be present. I had taken the 2 most valuable items I own, my laptop and video camera, out of the house by sheer luck. If they had been stolen it would have been most inconvenient – but they weren’t. It was a most benevolent theft – only targeting my gratitude draw – and leaving the most valuable contents.

The house was otherwise intact

They could have ransacked everything and found much more of value to me. Fortunately, the things of most value were left on the bed, even some money was left on the bed. The notes that I have collected are priceless to me. Each one reminded me what a great network of friends and family that I have.

What did I gain?

I got to reconnect with many of you by thinking about the many great things that have happened to me in my life this year and consider the wonderful friends that I have. You have all touched me in a way that has allowed me to find the gift in this situation quickly and I am currently feeling filled with gratitude. A big thank you goes to Mike, the man who came to the house late last night at point blank notice to piece the door back together. Also to Vanessa and Wayne, my sister and brother-in-law, who found someone else in the late hours of yesterday to help out in case Mike couldn’t make it.

People rallied to help.

Without this incident I would not have had the opportunity to meet my neighbours and would probably not have spent so long feeling grateful in the early hours this morning. Today I woke up smiling.

Thank you for being in my life.

If you are reading this then you have touched my life and I thank you for being the phenomenal being that you are and for being you.

Carlsberg don’t do burglaries but if they did…..

This moment is a good one and I look forward to many more. May your day be blessed with similar realisations.

I wish you love, luck and gratitude and extend my warmest wishes for having you in my life,

Adam ☺

Every now and then a day comes along that is so beautiful that it restores all faith in life. Have you ever had a day like that? A day that is so wonderfully serendipitous that it feels almost magical. I have just had one such day.

After a few months where I had decided to struggle with my business I finally realised that something had to change. The best thing to change upon discovering this realisation is me. I could either make excuses or learn from and change the way I think.

In order to change what you think, the first step is the awareness that it needs to happen. My awareness changed when I realised that I had been giving more than I was receiving. The decision not to receive was unconscious, based on programming that I had taken on board from an early age.

Because I knew no better it seemed like a good thing to do. Fortunately, I am now aware of how everything in my life is a direct result of my mind and how I choose to use it. I am also fortunate enough to have learned a varied mix of techniques to do this.

Much of my life has been spent listening to problems. I became a most proficient listener and placater. Because of this I had gravitated towards negativity and lacklustre results in certain areas of my life. This can happen when we make other people’s lives more important than our own. Admittedly, as a nurse, this was what I was paid to do.

When I had that awareness I left nursing. That was a beautiful day.

By finding my own solutions first I am much better at helping others to do the same. Today I spent looking after me.

After blatantly disregarding a golden rule that I have come to know well over the years, I woke up slightly late in the day, feeling slightly rough. I had been out for a few drinks on an empty stomach last night. This is not generally a good idea.

A few pints of water and a shower was enough to ease me gently into the day. A few hours of checking e-mails then preceded a 3 hour walk with my friend Mike. The sun was shining and I donned my first pair of shorts to go out in this year aside from playing football.

During our walk I was able to talk Mike through the basics of Walk INnovation. We then proceeded to stroll through our local park, past the lake and witness many people out and enjoying the sun. We also found a new path that took us to areas that we didn’t even know existed.

Every path that I did not know, involving walking into nature, I took. Being grounded and appreciating nature are just two aspects of what makes Walk INnovation so magical. It is possible to energise your body and mind every time you walk.

After 3 hours we returned home energised, feeling great and having had many insights into how to take our lives and businesses forward. This evening we relaxed back and watched a couple of films and then I went outside to look at the stars.

I have always been fascinated with the stars and have learned one or two constellations over the years. Connecting stars is fun for me. As I stared at the stars tonight I realised that there are other areas that connecting stars could also be fun, and highly advantageous to all involved.

I realise that I have a great network of friends and know some wonderful people. Each one is a star in their own right. Now it is time to learn astrology for people. By connecting stars it is possible to create our own constellations and plan a new map for our planet and our universe.

Walking is a gift to yourself. It energises your body and can energise your mind when your focus is positive. Today I invested in myself and took 3 hours to go walking. The weather was fantastic, the company was wonderful and the feeling is amazing.

Walk INnovation is an investment in myself. Now that I know it I can use it every time I walk. I now know the true benefit of what I teach and am sure that it will help many others. More importantly, it will help me. When I put myself first I will have more energy to give.

The new win-win mindset that I am adopting is sure to connect many stars, generate masses of energy and make me feel fantastic more of the time. It is currently 3.23 am and I am still feeling very energised and congruent with Walk INnovation.

You can create your own beautiful day by focusing on what makes you feel better. If you decide to do this while you walk it will be more beneficial. Walk your talk, walk your thoughts and your life will improve – because walking is good for your body. When your body feels good it is easier for the mind to do the same.

I wish you all a beautiful day and thank you for taking the time to share my musings on the subject.

Are you looking for perfection or are you ready to be perfectly imperfect?

What is perfection to you?

I think that the closest to perfect that I have seen is from children. They are curious, funny, cute, open and honest with their feelings. They are also full of love and joy. However, that is just an opinion based on my beliefs.

Your beliefs shape your life. What beliefs do you have that do not allow you to enjoy life to the full?

I once believed that I had to be a perfect role model in order to help people to live happier lives, where feeling good was all that mattered. Ironically, this belief did not make me feel good all of the time.

Everybody has different beliefs. Your beliefs create your life. If I believe that I deserve to feel good every day – I probably will. Should I believe that this is not possible – it probably isn’t. We all have different beliefs.

Every now and again, for all of my good sense and better knowledge, I land myself in a situation that is so unpredictable and out of the ordinary that I feel compelled to flow with it. This does not always involve being sensible or logical. I have never claimed to be perfect.

Many words, in any language, have a different meaning to everyone who uses them. If I mention something like freedom, to some it may mean more money. Others may believe it means better health, or even release from jail or a situation that isn’t good. For this reason communication through words is ambiguous at best.

Only communication through experience matters.

For the same reason, perfect means different things to everyone who uses it. When searching for perfection through your own eyes it will be pointless expecting everyone to agree on your exact definition of it.

Consequently, perfect has it’s own definition to everyone. In much the same way as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is perfection. By accepting that you can be perfectly imperfect you will find life easier.

By being perfectly imperfect you can laugh at the idea of looking for perfection outside of yourself and start loving your perceived imperfections. You can do whatever you want and feel good. If it doesn’t feel good, learn and move on swiftly.

What if you were to look inside yourself and see perfection everywhere?

When you love someone you make allowances for their imperfections. They don’t even know what their imperfections are most of the time – because they do not see perfect through your eyes. You can make them feel perfect in any given moment by saying or doing the right thing. Unfortunately, when you are not with them they will be back to using their own definition, which may not make them feel quite so good. This leads to dependence.

Inner perfection is a journey that you will almost certainly not complete if you are seeking the approval of others. Only you can decide to allow yourself to be imperfect to others and understand that they perceive you differently. Does their opinion really matter to you unless it makes you feel better?

For me, being perfectly imperfect means being honest with myself. Throughout my life I have been open to impulse and susceptible to new experiences, even when my decisions could be considered irrational or illogical by others.

I have travelled places that I was told not to because they were too dangerous. I entered Indonesia against advice when there were riots in the 1990’s. During the same period I entered Cambodia, where I was pursued by two men on a moped with an AK47 – I lived to tell the tale.

I have taken substances that would not be considered wise to take by health purists and had plenty of laughs doing so. I’ve lived life on the edge plenty of times. These experiences made me feel totally alive.

I have held the hand of hundreds of people as they died and shared their thoughts and feelings. Dying is not as upsetting as the realisation that they had never really lived.

Most people that I spent time with as they died realised that they had never really lived. They did not follow their heart as it was too risky. They were too busy planning the future to have fun. They were too busy blaming others for their misfortune. It was not those that they blamed who suffered as a result of such beliefs.

The experiences that make up my life are far from perfect as I position myself as someone who can help people feel better. Having been with those who were about to die and listened to their review of their lives, I realise one thing for certain.

It is not death that causes the most pain – it is life. Life is an experience and it is happening to all of us NOW. Tomorrow may never come.

If you have your health – you have a gift. If you have a problem – it can be solved. I prefer to walk my talk and Walk Innovation is the most simple and effective method available to start living life. If I am not living then I must be dying.

Today is a good day to be alive. Today I am happy being perfectly imperfect.

Hugging is good for you and a great way to feeling good.

“We need 4 hugs a day for survival. We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance. We need 12 hugs a day for growth.” Virginia Satir

It has taken me many years to simplify the potentially complex subject of wellbeing or wellness. Years of study have taught me some incredible and esoteric things that are infinitely complicated to the curious, western mind.

Study of medicine, energy, meditation, yoga, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Time-Line Therapy, Hypnotherapy, to name but a few, have given me some varied techniques and perspectives along the way. However, keeping the sustained feeling of change and positivity is something that had been illusive throughout this journey.

How is it possible to get so many breakthroughs intellectually and not translate them into sustained action afterwards?

For the past few months I have been giving out free hugs in London, with a few dedicated friends. On occasions I have woken up and not really felt in the mood to face the unpredictable moods of the general public. Each free hugs session will provoke just about every sort of emotional response possible. I have seen people get angry, hostile, insulting, rude and dismissive, each time I have gone into London free-hugging. This is part of the reason that it is so magical.

The contrast in perspectives just make the interactions of those who do understand that hugging feels good all the better. Feeling good is the only thing that matters in health and wellbeing. It is not what you do – but how you feel about it that matters.

For many years I have questioned myself as a wellbeing role model.

“Do I have the healthiest diet possible?” No. I am prone to eating and drinking things that would not be considered healthy by purists. Though I enjoy what I eat.

“Do I have the healthiest exercise routine?” No. I sometimes have a lapse in my routine. But I always go back to it.

“Do I have the healthiest lifestyle?” No. I am human and have what many would consider flaws in the way I live. Yet I have stories and memories that make me smile every time I think about them as a result of these quirks in my character.

There will always be people who are better at certain areas of health and wellbeing than I am. There will also be those who sit in judgement of how I live my life.

However, ask different questions like, “Do I know how to feel good, instantly?” Yes – Everytime.

“Do I know how to be kind to myself, even when others are not?” Yes – Everything in life is a test of my congruence to my current path.

“Do I know that hugging random people feels fantastic?” Yes – Because I do it regularly.

As human beings we need to connect, we need to have physical contact and we need to FEEL GOOD. Every time I go out hugging there are always enough people who experience amazing shifts in the way they feel – instantly. These are the memories I take from each free hugs session that I do.

We were even passed by a large group of people who were hugging policemen! It was a most interesting experience – and great fun as they queued up to hug us.

Forget the research, forget the complex systems of wellbeing and alternative therapy and forget the judgements of others. The fast track to health and wellbeing is feeling good and the fastest way to do that is to spend a day giving out free hugs. It will make you smile and change your mood and your life - forever.

Please feel free to join the group at http://bit.ly/1RtZdF and maybe join us the next time to share the feel-good vibe.
